Stone bowl

This beautiful bowl, with beading inlay, is made of kisii stone, named after the Kisii tribe of the Tabaka Hills in Western Kenya.

Giraffe sculpture

This kisii stone carving reminds me of the giraffe we stopped to talk to at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve in Botswana in 2019. The stone is named after the Kisii tribe of the Tabaka Hills in Western Kenya.  A panga (large knife) is used in the initial carving stage, followed by the use of a kisu (small knife) to give each piece those fine lines and details which make it come to life. The stone is washed, polished, glazed, loved and painted.

Wine goblets

These beautiful wine goblets were purchased at The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi. It is the creation of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya), a Kenyan non-profit organisation. Their main purpose is to educate Kenyan school children and youth on their country’s wildlife and environment, as well as give local and international visitors an opportunity to come into close contact with the world’s tallest species, the giraffe.

Noah’s arc

This beautifully handcrafted wood masterpiece caught our eye as soon as we entered a local market in Nairobi! It will surely provide hours of fun for the lucky child who will receive it, or serve as a beautiful heirloom to display in your home.
