Frequently Asked Question
Q: What is ZLT Hope Homes?
A: ZLT Hope Homes (Zawadi La Tumaini), was founded in 2013 by Jacqueline Villeneuve-Ahmed of Sudbury, ON, Canada. The organization provides safe shelter to children affected by sexual and physical abuse, abandonment, and neglect. ZLT Hope Homes is located in Nairobi, Kenya. The organization utilizes a holistic care model with an emphasis on quality education, medical care, and support to all of its children.
Q: Do you plan to expand the organization?
A: We currently provide a safe home to 21 children and youth. In the future, our organization will expand to provide further community programming and scholarship opportunities while expanding our charitable brand Olive & Annie. As for expanding our current support for children affected by abuse and abandonment, we believe in providing quality, family-style care for each of our children, which at the core of our model maintains guardianship for 25 or less children and youth.
Q: How old are the children under the care of ZLT Hope Homes?
A: Children in our care range from 1 years old to twenty years old, and are supported throughout their post-secondary education as well. We support our children from the time that they become a part of our family until they have successfully completed university or vocational school. Following graduation, we work to assist our children with CV's and job connections for up to one year following graduation. Our emotional support for our children lasts long into adulthood, even after they have left our home.
Q: Does your home have any religious affiliation?
A: ZLT Hope Homes is not a religiously affiliated organization. We provide care and equal opportunity to children and youth of all backgrounds. While we do promote positive core values, we believe that no child should be turned away based on their religious or cultural background, and as such we encourage our children to explore and practice the faith of their choosing. Our diverse team represents both Muslim and Christian values, which further motivates our decision to support and embody love for people of all backgrounds and faiths.
Q: I'm interested in volunteering with ZLT Hope Homes. How would I do so?
A: At this time ZLT Hope Homes exclusively offers volunteers to Kenyan residents and donors of ZLT Hope Homes who have a specialization in medicine, education, community development, law and justice, photography, construction/carpentry, agriculture, or music.
